Community Service College Scholarship

This scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 paid for one year to the accredited college or university the student chooses to attend. While this scholarship has a minimum GPA requirement for eligibility, it is not primarily an academic scholarship. The criteria for selection also does not consider financial need. Instead, it is targeted at students that have demonstrated excellence in service to their community. We encourage all students that are eligible and have an excellent record of community service to apply for this scholarship.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must live in or go to school in the service area of the Florissant Valley Jaycees. This area is defined as the geographic boundaries of the Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant, and Riverview school districts. Students that private schools attend a private or parochial school but reside within those boundaries are eligible.
  • The applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (based on an A=4.0).
  • The applicant must have significant community service experience.
  • The applicant cannot be related in any way to a current member or life member of the Florissant Valley Jaycees.

Application Process

  • The applicant must completely fill out one of the applications that are enclosed.
  • The applicant must submit a copy of an official transcript or most recent report card to confirm the minimum GPA requirement (2.5 / 4.0).
  • The applicant must submit verification of residency to confirm that they live in the Florissant Valley Jaycee service area as defined above.
  • The applicant must submit 2 letters of recommendation. One must be from a faculty or staff member at their current school. The other must be from a community leader.
  • The applicant must submit a short one page (double spaced) typed essay "What Community Service Means to Me".
  • The application, essay, letters of recommendation, and supporting information are due and must be postmarked by April 15. Mail these items to Florissant Valley Jaycee Foundation, P. O. Box 858, Florissant, MO 63032.
  • Applications will be screened and finalists will be selected. Finalists will be invited to a personal interview with the selection committee.
  • The scholarship(s) will be awarded in May of each year.
