Who are the Jaycees?

The Jaycees are a volunteer organization of young men and women between the ages of 18 and 40.  The purpose of the Jaycees is to develop the individual member to his full potential as a person, a concerned citizen and a leader.

The Jaycee movement began in 1920 in St. Louis, as the Junior Chamber of Commerce, when Henry Geissenbier recognized a need for an organization to teach young men leadership and business skills in order to advance their careers.  This organization is now international and open to both men and women.

Currently in the State of Missouri there are more than 3,600 Jaycees in over 85 local chapters.  Each chapter serves its community and its members in a unique and individual way.

Through the years, the Jaycees have made an impact on communities all over the country.  Many local and national leaders got their start in the Junior Chamber. [top]

How can the Jaycees help me?

The Jaycee organization provides opportunities for you to develop and polish skills that will benefit both your personal and professional lives.  These skills include:

Involvement with the Jaycees also provides opportunities for community service, networking and life-long friendships.  Ultimately, what you get out of the Jaycees is what you put into it.  Your involvement will repay you tenfold. [top]

What if I don't live in Florissant?

You don't have to live in Florissant.  We serve the Florissant Valley area, which is the majority of North County.  We serve Florissant, Hazelwood, Ferguson, Dellwood, Black Jack, Spanish Lake, Unincorporated and many other municipalities. [top]

What is the total Jaycee concept?

Our purpose is to determine community needs and provide solutions by planning and facilitating community service projects.  In the act of serving members receive hands-on experience, which translates to the enhancement of personal growth and the development of valuable leadership skills.

Community Development

The Jaycees are a community-oriented organization.  Participation in projects not only betters the community, but gives the individual member the opportunity to use skills learned through management development and individual development.

Management Development

Through project coordination the Jaycees provide an excellent opportunity for a member to use and improve his management skills.  Major emphasis is placed on financial and personal management, public relations, planning, training and communications.  Monies raised from projects are donated to local charities.

Individual Development

The Jaycees will provide the individual member with the opportunity for self improvement.  The basic techniques of speaking before groups, developing leadership abilities, family life, and spiritual development are accessible to members.  Each member can participate in activities designed to enhance growth as a leader of others, as a Jaycee and as a person. The Jaycee Creed

We Believe:

That faith in God gives meaning
and purpose to human life;

That the brotherhood of man transcends
the sovereignty of nations;

That economic justice can best be won
by free men through free enterprise;

That government should be of laws
rather than of men;

That Earth's great treasure lies
in human personality;

And that service to humanity
is the best work of life.
